Plenty to Do in St. Michael's!
St. Michaels is a great destination due to its scenic harbor and the wealth of things to do and see in this area. Even in the winter or off-season when it is too cold to go sailing, the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum features many indoor exhibits along with the lighthouse to explore and imagine life as a "light keeper" over a hundred years ago. Talbot County has more waterfront than any other county in the United States and many charming colonial era towns with splendid Victorian buildings.
This area is ideal for short (several miles) to longer range bicycle trips to explore the many waterfront areas and towns in Talbot County. One of the most popular bicycle trips is from St. Michaels to Oxford via the Bellevue ferry (about 7 miles each way). A three mile loop from our inns takes you out through the golf course at Harbourtowne and then along the Miles River before turning your bike back towards our inns.
There are many fine restaurants and shops in St. Michaels, and we would be pleased to recommend one or more that would match up with your interests - check out our Restaurant Guide on this site. The highly regarded "208 Talbot" restaurant (Zagat rated and currently # 4 on TripAdvisor.com) is right next door to the Parsonage Inn or the Key Lime Cafe rated # 3 on TripAdvisor.com is across the street . . . both of these restaurants are less than one mile from the George Brooks House. These restaurants along with Chesapeake Landing participate in our "Taste of St. Michaels" packages which includes a tour and wine tasting at the St. Michaels Winery along with tickets to the maritime museum.
There are many delightful clothing shops, antique shops, art galleries and other stores in the central part of town. Other activities in the area include the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum, sailing on the famous Skipjack "Rebecca T. Ruark", a cruise up the Miles River, fishing, golf, kayaking, horseback riding or a visit to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge (below Cambridge). We also have a delightful Winery with a tour and tastings and a small micro-brewery in town at the Mill Complex.
The links below provide more detailed information on the "local attractions"or activities in this area plus the major towns. The three "top rated" activities include sailing on the Skipjack "Rebecca T. Ruark" with Captain Wade Murphy, exploring the Chesapeake Maritime Museum and catching the ferry from Bellevue over to Oxford. Our innkeepers will help you select the best activities . . just ask!
